The first example of “Collaborative Content.” Shiretown’s Derek Leslie already wanted to give back to the arts community, and with the help of Hutchinson Creative Communications, we all came up with this live sessions series – shot inside Shiretown’s brewery. I’m working in Campbellton, New Brunswick, and I’ve been very surprised. A lot of interesting stories have come up. A good chunk have come from Listuguj First Nation.
Wind Farm: The Mi’gmawei Mawiomi Secretariat brought a windfarm project to the area, and I love everything about it.
Jeff Barnaby: Jeff Barnaby is a talented filmmaker who recently got a lot of attention in the country. All for good reason. Watch “Rhymes For Young Ghouls” whenever you get the chance. (This page also has a story about one of the many ways Restigouche is trying to turn this place around).
Wapikoni: Wapikoni is a group of mobile studios that go around to First Nation communities and help them tell stories. It’s great, and they let me check out the set of one of the movies being shot.
David Alward on Greg Davis: The last MLA for the Campbellton area, Greg Davis, disappeared, and an eviction notice exposed some party bail outs and unexplained spending. I got to ask the Premier about it, when he was in town talking about resource development. He talked around the question, so I wrote that, and The Telegraph Journal printed it in one of its main sections.
Courts: I’m also getting to cover courts (which I love) every once and awhile. Here were two stories that we made bigger than the regular “snippets.”
Fred Mundle and Nursing Home: Fred Mundle is a local poet who won the Alfred G. Baily award, and this is the story I did about the governments announcement of a nursing home project that they previously shut down. This was just a few weeks before the election campaigns started.
Bruno Lurette: I’m not a big sports guy, but I’ve had the chance to do some decent profiles with athletes. Here’s one about the guy who brought Muay Thai kickboxing to the area. He’s also been organizing fights about once a month.

The time has come to scratch the itch myself.
I was laid off from Brunswick News on boxing day. Newspapers are contracting – it’s not like this is a surprise to me. I do love them. But, this may be for the best.
